NEW VENUE / NEW DATES FOR THE JEFFCO LIBRARY FOUNDATION BOOK SALE!
The Jefferson County Library Foundation (JCLF) is pleased to announce that its very popular Whale from a used book sale will have a new location in 2021. This first big sale of the year will take place at the campus and gymnasium of Lakewood Church of the Nazarene’s located at 1755 Dover St. in Lakewood from June 23-27.
As with last fall’s JCLF sale, prepaid reservations are required, and to help ensure social distancing, only 80 buyers will be allowed to sell each hour. Reservation fees are $ 5 per hour for individuals and $ 10 per hour for families (up to four family members). Reservations can be made at www.whalesale.org or by calling 303-403-5075.
The dates and times of the summer sales are:
- Wednesday, June 23, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. – FRIENDS ONLY Preview evening
- Thursday June 24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Friday June 25 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

- Sunday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Bag Day! A bag of books the size of a grocery store for $ 8
“Even though many buyers have been vaccinated against COVID-19, we are still taking health and safety precautions for this large group, which is why we are requesting reservations and limiting the number of buyers in the sale at all times. “says Kirstin Kraig, Coordinator of Volunteers and Friends of JCLF. She adds, “With books selling as low as fifty cents, the sale continues to provide an incredible opportunity for buyers to purchase material that many could not otherwise afford. As an added bonus, our semi-annual Whale Used Book sales help us raise thousands of dollars which will support many free programs at the Jefferson County Public Library.
The Whale of a Used Book Sale has a history of over 20 years and offers over 80,000 books, CDs, DVDs, vinyl records and many other items lightly used and donated at each event. The sale kicks off with Friends Preview Night on June 23, where Friends of the Jefferson County Public Library are invited to purchase the sale before it opens to the public. The sale is then open to the public for the following four days, from Thursday to Sunday 24 to 27 June.
Many standard COVID-19 precautions will remain in effect during the event, including social distancing rules and all unvaccinated buyers over the age of 2 are required to wear face covers during the sale. Hand sanitizers will be available free of charge inside the facility.
To make shopping quick and easy during this COVID era, sealed boxes of children’s books categorized by age group will be available for $ 10. Sealed boxes of hardback books and adult paperbacks will also be available for $ 10.
This event continues to receive tremendous support from local sponsors including our Friends Community partners: Westerra Credit Union, Bandimere Speedway, Stevinson Toyota West, Pinkard Construction, 50 Plus Marketplace and Women’s Day. Colorado 2021.
