Man, 31, charged with double homicide in Galesburg to take mental competency test
KALAMAZOO, MI – The man charged with a double homicide in Galesburg will undergo a mental competency test.
William Wolfe, 31, of Galesburg, is charged with two counts of open air murder and felony firearms in the shooting deaths of June 3 husband and wife Virgil “Larry” Walker, 49 years old, and Kailey Walker, 30, according to court records. The shooting took place around 6:30 a.m.
Wolfe had a pre-examination hearing in Kalamazoo County District Court on June 17. He will undergo a mental capacity test to see if he is legally fit to stand trial, court records show.

Kailey and Virgil Walker tied the knot in October 2011 and the two weren’t complete without each other, their obituary says. They loved to play board games, ride bikes and go out to eat together.
Wolfe lived next door to the Walkers in Galesburg Village Apartments complex, in the 600 block of 35th Street, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Wolfe knocked on the Walkers’ door and shot Virgil Walker without warning or provocation, according to the affidavit. Wolfe then entered the apartment and shot Kailey Walker several times.
The husband and wife were found dead in their apartment, according to the affidavit.
Wolfe then returned to his apartment, said goodbye to his cat and attended a nursing home, the Laurels of Galesburg at 1080 N. 35th St., according to the affidavit. According to the affidavit, he then called 911 and said he shot and possibly killed his neighbors.
Wolfe told detectives the couple were too loud and prevented them from sleeping, according to the affidavit. He also admitted the shots.
Bond was denied when Wolfe was brought to justice on June 4. He is currently being held at Kalamazoo County Jail.
