Illa Jolene Goins, 85, went to join the Lord on Friday, May 21, 2021, peacefully at home with her family members and her beloved Dachshund, Amy Jo by her side.
Jolene was born April 5, 1936 to George Jackson William Palmer “Bus” Fiber and Mary Irene Householder in East Liverpool, Ohio. She attended East Liverpool High School in her first year as a drum majorette leading the marching band. Jolene moved to Gallup, NM, just before her final year of high school and graduated from Gallup High School in 1954.
On November 24, 1957, Jolene married Sam Ray, Sr. and they worked side by side in the family business, Tony Ray’s Power Plants, in Gallup, New Mexico, which included the sale and service of the Onan and Witte generators. . In 1971, they became owners of Ray’s Enterprise (formerly Tony Ray’s Power Plants) which continued to provide sales and service for generators, Honda motorcycles and Polaris snowmobiles.
In 1982, Jolene moved to Roswell, New Mexico, and in 1985, she married Elijah LeRoy Goins, her loving husband for thirty-three wonderful years; spend time in their “peaceful valley”.
Jolene retired from Roswell Eastern New Mexico Medical Center as secretary of the operating room. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Penasco Valley Auxiliary 3187 of Roswell, NM, a member of the Roswell Downtown Lions Club of Roswell, NM, and a member of the Gallup Elks Lodge of Gallup, NM.

An avid traveler, Jolene has spent her life planning and anticipating the next adventure. She was always ready to “hit the road” and see where it took her next. Jolene was an adventurous dreamer and an inspiring goddess. She was graceful, elegant, fierce, strong, loyal, quick-witted, funny, loving, courageous, compassionate, generous and beautiful. Jolene was generous and caring, always going out to help those in need and often opening her home to those in need of love and care. She almost always started her phone calls with “Hi Darlin” and always ended them with “I love you”.
Jolene could watch her favorite teams (Broncos, Packers, Spurs or Pirates) while chatting with you and never miss a stitch of her crochet or knit. Quick with a smile and always ready to give advice. With her late husband LeRoy, they would travel wherever the road led them. Jolene loved watching her kids participate in a high school rodeo and play baseball. She enjoyed attending the weekly prayer group, knitting, crocheting, dancing, fishing, hunting, jeeping and picnicking in the forest, snowmobiling, bowling, playing board games or card games with children. beloved friends and neighbors, and spending precious time with her. best friends, the “brotherhood”. Jolene loved attending the Goins family reunions in Bay Minette, Alabama where her memory will live on with the family and friends she has there.
Those who cherish Jolene’s memory are her sons: Sam Ray Jr. (Debbie), Anthony F. Ray (Connie), Raymond Goins (Laurie) and Don Goins (Tammy); daughter, Matejka Santillanes (Jay); sisters: Enola Keller, Jimmie Roybal, Callie Mae Hickman and Wilma Lyman.
Twenty grandchildren: John Ray, Jason Ray, Sheri D. Ray, Jesse D. Ray, Lanae D. Ray, Tony Arriaga, Kimberly Taylor, Joseph Santillanes, William Goins, Lyrics Fain, Drea Davis, Kaileigh Goins, JD Davis, Joe Kidd, Rebecca Kidd, John Mongin, Carrie Youngblood, Andrea Goodman, Alex Goins and Michael Goins; eleven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved Dachshund, Amy Jo.
Jolene is predeceased by her husband, Elijah LeRoy Goins; parents, Bus and Mary Irene Householder; grandparents: Otho Householder and Illa Vern Householder; sister, Charlotte Irene Fiber; step-sons: Larry Goins and Timothy Goins; daughter-in-law, Nancy Mongin; and ten brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Jolene and Leroy also have extended families who are dear to their hearts, Michael Johnston, Chrisynthia Fitzpatrick, Chase Uhrich, Dakota Van Winkle and Brent Busby.
A memorial service will be held at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home on Saturday July 10, 2021 at 10:00 am. A reception will take place after the service. Further information will be provided later.
